Jim Martin founded Arbor Investment Advisors in 1998. Arbor is a fee-only investment advisory firm based in Winston-Salem, managing total assets in excess of $240 million.

Arbor advisors provide customized investment advice and asset management for high-net-worth clients. Independent and privately owned, Arbor centers its investment approach on managing risk and return through diversification strategies. Jim advises clients and directs the firm with emphasis on new business and marketing.

From 1985 to 1997, he was with the Frank Russell Trust Company where he was the Southeastern U.S. Regional Director. In that capacity, Jim organized and executed sales and client servicing functions, growing assets under management to over $2 billion.

Prior to working with Frank Russell, Jim was with Booke & Company (now Aon Consulting) from 1973 to 1985 as a Senior Vice President. There, Jim managed the Retirement Consulting Group responsible for sales and client service to corporate clients.

From 1968 to 1971, Jim served in the United States Marine Corps. He ended his service with the rank of Captain and served in Viet Nam.

Jim is active in the community, having served on numerous boards. He is currently on the Boards of Piedmont Land Conservancy, Summit School, Audubon Society of North Carolina and Board Chair at Senior Services of Forsyth County. At Centenary United Methodist Church, he is chair of the investment committee.

Jim has been president or chairman of: Audubon Society of North Carolina, Carolina Chamber Symphony, Arbor Acres Retirement Community, Reynolda Rotary Club, Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy, Southern Employee Benefits Conference and Wake Forest University MBA Alumni Council.

Jim's interests include birding, golf, bridge and backpacking. He is a retired marathoner, has hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Pennsylvania, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro and identified 900 species of birds, worldwide. Jim lives in Winston-Salem with his wife, Mary Allen, and has two grown sons.

Frank K. Lord, III joined Arbor Investment Advisors in 1998. Arbor is an asset management firm in Winston-Salem, advising high net worth clients. Frank advises clients and directs the firm with emphasis on new business and finance.

Frank's career includes service in public accounting as a CPA and as chief financial officer and corporate secretary for privately owned manufacturing companies. In addition to overseeing corporate financial functions, he had responsibility for Human Resources and Management Information Systems. Frank oversaw the selection of investment managers for benefit plans and monitored their performance. He has strong skills in preparing and interpreting financial statements for a variety of audiences.

Frank's most recent position was with Armtex, Incorporated/Surry Industries. Inc. in Mt. Airy, NC, where he held positions as vice president-finance, corporate secretary and treasurer, and member of the Boards of Directors for both companies. Prior to that, Frank was controller and corporate secretary for Hanes Companies in Winston-Salem.

A native of Richmond, VA, Frank came to Winston-Salem to attend Wake Forest University. He has been active in the community since his university days, currently serving as treasurer of the North Carolina School of the Arts Foundation. He has recently also been treasurer of the Winston-Salem State University Foundation and tutored in the WINGS program in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. He was named Volunteer of the Year for the Surry County Schools in 1996.

Frank has also been Senior Warden and Treasurer of St. Paul's Church, Fundraising Chairman for the Arts Council and Treasurer of Horizons. Frank lives in Winston-Salem with his wife, Kay, has two grown sons, a grandson and a granddaughter.

Scott Cawood joined Arbor Investment Advisors in September 2003. Arbor is an asset management firm in Winston-Salem, advising high net worth clients. Scott advises clients and serves as Chief Investment Officer and Chief Compliance Officer for the firm.

Prior to Arbor, Scott served in a number of key leadership positions during his twelve-year career at Wachovia Bank. Most recently in 2002 and 2003, Scott was Senior Risk Officer for Wachovia's asset management business. Scott's primary responsibilities included overseeing the assessment of new investment products (evaluated risks, client suitability, prospectus disclosures, etc.) and the management of key risks in Wachovia's mutual fund and separate account businesses.

In 2001 as a Senior Vice President in the Financial Management group, Scott performed detailed financial analysis of various corporate strategic initiatives. In 1999 and 2000 as a Senior Risk Manager in the Capital Markets group, Scott managed credit, market and operational risks in the loan syndication and leasing business units. He actively participated in arranging senior debt for large corporate clients and oversaw secondary loan trading activity. From 1991 through 1998, Scott served as portfolio manager for corporate loans in various geographic regions in Wachovia's footprint.

Scott holds the prestigious Chartered Financial Analyst designation. The CFA charter is the only globally recognized credential for investment analysis and management. The CFA curriculum covers ethical and professional standards, quantitative methods, economics, financial statement analysis, corporate finance, the analysis of equity, fixed income and alternative investments, derivatives and portfolio management. Scott is a member of the CFA Institute and the North Carolina Society of Financial Analysts.

Scott is also a Certified Financial Planner certificant. The CFP mark identifies those individuals who have met rigorous experience, coursework and ethical requirements, and have passed the CFP examination covering the financial planning process, risk management, investments, tax planning and management, retirement and employee benefits and estate planning.

Scott has been active in the community since first coming to Winston-Salem in 1991. He is currently Treasurer and a board member for the Bethlehem Community Center. He has served as a volunteer on numerous occasions at the Samaritan Ministries shelter for the homeless. Scott is an Eagle Scout. Scott's interests include golf, tennis and snow skiing. Scott lives in Winston-Salem with his wife, Greer, and their daughter Emmie.

Scott Jones joined Arbor Investment Advisors in 2006. Arbor is a fee-only investment advisory firm based in Winston-Salem, managing total assets in excess of $240 million.

Independent and privately owned, Arbor centers its investment approach on managing risk and return through diversification strategies. Scott advises clients and directs the firm with emphasis on new business and finance.

From 2002 to 2006, he was a Vice President with Wachovia Wealth Management in Philadelphia, PA where he held the position of Regional Chief Financial Officer and, most recently, Relationship Manager.

Following graduate school, Scott joined First Union National Bank in Charlotte, NC where he was an analyst in the Treasury/Corporate Strategy and Development Group until 2002.

Prior to graduate school, Scott was a Regional Loan Officer with Merrill Lynch Credit Corporation in Jacksonville, FL.

Scott's interests include golf and traveling. He lives in Clemmons, NC with his wife, Mary, and three sons, Brevin, Leighton and Ethan.

Paige P. Birchfield joined Arbor Investment Advisors when it began in 1998. Arbor is an asset management firm in Winston-Salem, advising high net worth clients. Paige assists with prospect and client proposals and presentations and manages day-to-day client servicing.

Paige coordinates operations at Arbor Investment Advisors. As operations manager she produces client quarterly reports. Paige also provides marketing support, account maintenance and general office management.

Before joining Arbor, Paige assisted investment counselors Donald E. Brown and Gerald M. Malmo, III at Holden Mickey & Mickey, Inc., an affiliate financial services firm.

Paige is involved in serving as a children's activity leader and Sunday school teacher at her church. She has been a volunteer in the WINGS program in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County School System. Paige lives in King with her husband, Rob, and two daughters, Carson and Lane.

April Y. Beason joined Arbor Investment Advisors in March 2005. April assists with prospect and client proposals and presentations as well as day-to-day client servicing.

Prior to joining Arbor, April was employed by Manugistics, Inc., a supply chain software company based in Rockville, MD. Over the course of her seven years at Manugistics, April worked with hundreds of Fortune 500 clients helping them solve their supply chain challenges. Her roles at Manugistics included consulting, client support, training, and sales operations/forecasting.

April enjoys reading, running and walking. She and her husband David relocated from the DC Metro Area to Winston-Salem in the summer of 2003. April lives in Winston-Salem with her husband, David, and infant son, Tyler.

Emily J. Hinton joined Arbor Investment Advisors in August 2007. Arbor is an asset management firm in Winston-Salem, advising high net worth clients. Emily assists with prospect and client proposals and presentations and manages day-to-day client servicing.

Before joining Arbor, Emily was employed by Financial Resource Management, Inc., a financial planning firm based in Raleigh, NC. Over the course of her two and half years at Financial Resource Management, Emily's responsibilities included customer support, coordinating seminars, updating client portfolios, annuity support and account transfers.

Emily enjoys running, reading, church activities, and watching Wolfpack athletics. She lives in Clemmons with her sister, Erin.
